Please note the City of Downey only accepts applications for current open recruitments.

All application materials received are reviewed for relevant education, experience, and training.  Your resume may be attached to your application, but a resume will not  be accepted in lieu of a fully completed online application.  Submitting an incomplete application or partial information may result in removal of your application from consideration in the examination process.

The City does not accept facsimiles, final date postmarks, or emailed applications.  Those applicants determined to best meet the needs of the City will be invited to participate in the examination process which may consist of a performance, testing, an oral board interview, written examination and/or other selection process.  Depending upon the applicant pool, all applicants meeting the qualifications will not necessarily be selected to participate in the examination process.

Agency Shop

An Agency Shop Agreement exists between the City of Downey and the City of Downey Maintenance Unit (DCEA Maintenance) and Miscellaneous Employees Association Unit (DCEA Miscellaneous).  As a result employees in classifications represented by the DCEA Maintenance Unit or DCEA Miscellaneous Unit are required, after beginning employment, to becomes either a dues paying member or pay an agency fee.  Employees with bona fide religious objections are required to pay an amount equal to the agency fee to a charity.  All dues are collected via payroll deduction.

California Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) Pull Notice System

Positions requiring a valid Driver’s License are subject to enrollment in the California DMV Pull Notice Program. The Pull Notice program provides information on the driving record and Driver’s License status of an employee on a periodic basis to the City of Downey. An employee assigned a City vehicle must acknowledge receipt and understanding of City Administrative Regulations covering the use of City vehicles.

Department of Transportation
 
Positions requiring a Commercial Driver’s License (A or B) that perform safety sensitive duties are subject to the City’s Random Alcohol and Drug Testing Program in accordance with the Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. The DOT requires alcohol and drug testing information related to a random DOT drug-testing program from a previous employer for the two (2) years preceding employment with the City of Downey.
