The Sports Program Leader assists the Program Coordinator in leading sports programs for people participating in CUSR programs. Duties include maintaining a safe environment, enforcing risk management procedures, and promoting success in the program. A variety of different programs will be offered including, but not limited to, aquatics, bowling, fitness, sports, and Special Olympics. This position follows a 3 season curriculum. The Sports Program Leader is a part-time seasonal employee. This position requires a background check. |

Examples of Duties:
|
• Assist in leading, supervising, and organizing program activities
• Assist in completing all necessary paperwork as assigned
• Attend staff meetings as assigned
• Communicate on a regular basis all progress, problems, concerns, and suggestions to Program Coordinator
• Arrive at program site fifteen minutes before scheduled program and is prepared to stay after program for clean-up and parent pick-up
• Notify Program Coordinator immediately of any illness or injury, which may conflict with program responsibilities
• Approach all activities with an enthusiastic and positive attitude at all times
• Attend staff training and orientation
• Assist in maintaining and monitoring the program’s first aid kit
• Notify Program Coordinator of first aid supplies needed
• Properly handle and dispose of bio-hazardous materials
• Follow all Champaign and Urbana Park District and CUSR policies and procedures as appropriate to assignment
• Complete other work related duties as assigned
• Transport participants in agency vehicle (if 21 years of age or older) |

Typical Qualifications:
|
• Interest in working with people who have disabilities
• Experience in specific program area
• First aid and CPR certifications or willing to be certified through Champaign Park District at first opportunity
• Attend and complete CPI training six months of hire.
• Attend Champaign Park District blood-borne pathogens training within two weeks of hire.
• Is at least 18 years of age preferred, but not required. |

• Ability to respond to problem situations in a mature manner and within the policies and procedures of Champaign and Urbana Park District and CUSR.
PHYSIOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS
• The position requires a flexible schedule during evening and weekend hours.
• Perform safe physical restraints and transfers.
• Feed, diaper, and reposition participants as needed.
• Respond quickly and accurately.
• Must be able to be physically active (e.g. extensive walking on fieldtrips, push wheelchairs, etc.).
ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS
• May be exposed to all weather conditions.
COGNITIVE CONSIDERATIONS
• Must possess good safety awareness, judgment, and problem solving skills. |
