Job Title: Youth Sports Instructor

The Youth Sports Instructor is responsible for the organization and instruction of Champaign Park District non-competitive instructional sports programs for children ages 5 to 14. Sports include t-ball, softball, basketball, football, and soccer. The pay range for this position is from Minimum Wage to $10.00 per hour.

 Examples of Duties:
•Prepare lesson plans.
•Instruct participants in fundamentals of designated sport.
•Maintain a safe recreational environment.
•Thoroughly complete accident, incident, and other reports as necessary.
•Enforce Park District policies and procedures.
•Check all equipment and supplies and report necessary repairs to supervisor.
•Ensure care and return of all Champaign Park District equipment.
•Must be easily identified as a Champaign Park District staff member by wearing a staff shirt or jacket during working hours.
•Relay comments from participants and spectators to supervisor
•Other duties as assigned.

 Typical Qualifications:
•A sincere interest and enthusiasm for team sports and developing these skills in children.
•Knowledge of at least one sport and rules.
•Ability to maintain working relationship with staff and public.
•Experience working with children 5 – 14 years old.
•Attend Champaign Park District bloodborne pathogen training within two weeks of hire.
•Current CPR and First Aid certification is a requirement of this job and a condition of employment.

 Supplemental Information:
Psychological Considerations
•Respond to problem situations in a mature manner and within the policies and procedures of the District.
•Adjust teaching to meet needs of individual children.

Physiological Considerations
•Lift and carry supplies up to 20 pounds.
•Running, stretching, jumping and other team sports related movements required.
•Must be able to be physically active to administer CPR and First Aid as necessary.

Environmental Considerations
•May be exposed to all weather conditions especially extreme heat and sun.
