Job Title: Secretary I

The City of Champaign seeks qualified candidates for the position of Secretary I in the City Manager’s Office. Responsibilities include a wide variety of clerical support work, including, but not limited to: serving as the department receptionist; responding to requests for information and providing customer service; typing/editing letters, memos, reports, agendas, meeting minutes, and other documents; developing and maintaining electronic and hard copy filing systems; preparing and maintaining payroll records; and coordinating the organization and distribution of materials for City Council activities.

The successful applicant will have experience in clerical office work (3 years of experience is preferred, but not required) and completion of a standard high school degree, or any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must be proficient in the use of word processing and spreadsheet software (such as the Microsoft Office suite), with some knowledge of database software (such as Microsoft Access) and desktop publishing software (such as Microsoft Publisher) required. Knowledge of standard office terminology, procedures, and equipment, excellent customer service and communication skills, the ability to type at an adequate rate of speed, and the ability to perform basic business math are also required.

Skill testing and drug screening will be required. The starting annual salary range is $35,621 - $40,552, depending on qualifications, plus an excellent fringe benefits package. Apply online no later than November 22, 2009.
