Pay Schedule III, Grade 15N

Vacancies exist within the various bureaus of the Health Department.

An eligible list will be established based on the examination as outline below.  Vacancies occurring within this class in any office or department of Baltimore County Government may be filled from this eligible list.

 Examples of Duties:
Under general supervision, plans, coordinates, and provides professional public health nursing services to individuals, families, and groups in the home, community, and health centers.
•Provides nursing care, health assessments, health guidance, health education, and 
 referral services to individuals, families, groups, and institutions.
•Administers prescribed medical treatments and emergency care to patients.
•Provides and assists in the provision of patient case management and monitoring.
•Assess and monitors patients' physical and mental states of health and determines 
 need for community based resources.
•Establishes nursing care priorities and coordinates the care with other resources.
•Monitors the progress of the patient care plan.
•Oversees and evaluates home-based services.
•Ensures compliance with Medicare and Medicaid regulations.
•Assists physicians and others in health clinics.
•Monitors and reports on patients' care plan progress.
•Conducts home visits and renders preventive nursing care.
•Performs various health screenings.
•Provides mental health therapy to individuals, groups, and families.
•Administers psychotropic medications and assists in planning and implementing
 Individual Treatment Plans (ITPs).
 •Provides health screening education and counseling in the areas of disease
 prevention, health maintenance, and mental health.
•Participates in the instruction, orientation, and oversight of new public health nurses,
 nursing assistants, volunteers, and others.
•Prepares and maintains nursing records and reports.

 Qualifications:
Required Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in nursing.

OR

Graduation from an accredited diploma school of nursing, plus one year of professional nursing experience. (Additional qualifying education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.)

OR

Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate in arts degree in nursing, plus two years' professional nursing experience. (Additional qualifying education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.)

Licenses and Certificates
Possession of a valid license to practice as a professional registered nurse, issued by the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Nurses, is required at the time of appointment. Possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a noncommercial, class C Maryland driver's license is required at the time of appointment.

Proof of Education, Licenses and Certificates

EXAMINATION PROCEDURE
Qualified applicants will be assigned a rating based on an evaluation of their training and experience as submitted on their application and supplemental questionnaire.  Applicants are advised to state the dates, duties and responsibilities of past and present experience clearly and completely for evaluation purposes.

 Conditions of Employment:
Physical and Environmental Conditions
The work of this classification may include the performance of physical activities such as walking, standing, and lifting, the operation of medical equipment and instruments, and travel throughout the County. Duties may expose incumbents to various bio-medical hazards.

Medical Examination and Employment Background Investigation
