Pay Schedule I, Grade 28, Regular Schedule: 35 Hours per week.

A vacancy exists in the Bureau of Child, Adolescent and Reproductive Health/Speech Language and Hearing in the Health Department.

 Examples of Duties:

Under general supervision, participates in rendering direct speech-language pathology services including diagnostic assessments, speech and language therapy, and preventive services.

  • Administers speech and language diagnostic evaluations and assessments. Makes determinations regarding the appropriate therapy required by patients and refers clients to other services and agencies as needed.
  • Conducts individual and group speech and language therapy. Consults with the Speech Pathologist/Audiologist Supervisor in regard to the patient's progress and reaction to therapy. 
  • Interviews client and reviews client information to determine eligibility for financial assistance, benefits, and/or other services according to established guidelines. Prepares and maintains necessary records and reports of evaluations, therapy results, and prognosis. Maintains therapy progress notes.
  • Consults with physicians and other staff members to discuss and evaluate speech and language therapy and treatment plans. Provides consultation to community organizations and patients' families regarding speech and language services.

Examples of Other Duties
Participates in the training of students and non-professional staff. Participates in seminars, conferences, and in-service training programs. Performs other related duties as required.

 Qualifications:
Required Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in speech-language pathology; plus three years' paid professional experience in speech-language pathology.

Licenses and Certificates
Possession of the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology issued by The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Possession of a current Maryland license as a Speech-Language Pathologist is required at the time of appointment. All licenses and certifications must be maintained throughout employment.

Proof of Education, Licenses and Certificates
Applicants are required to submit proof of education beyond high school to meet the required qualifications for this job. Diplomas or transcripts must show the applicant's major field of study. Preferred Qualifications
Experience providing case management or service coordination to families.
Experience writing Individualized Family Service Plans.

 Conditions of Employment:
Physical and Environmental Conditions
The duties of this classification are essentially sedentary and require the operation of various speech-language pathology related equipment. The position does involve frequent travel between worksites including travel to the homes of families of infants and toddlers for the provision of services.

Medical Examination and Employment Background Investigation
Applicants selected for an appointment to a position in Baltimore County must successfully complete a physical examination and drug screen and an employment background investigation, including, but not limited to a criminal background, and fingerprint check.
