The City of Aurora is on the verge of becoming the second largest city in Colorado rivaling Colorado Springs, Colorado and our largest Colorado city, Denver, Colorado.  The population of Aurora is more than 300,000 and growing.  Our city as well as the police department have been poised for profound growth since 1985 and have achieved significant notoriety as a result.  Therefore the opportunities for a variety of departmental assignments and advancements abound in our present and certainly in our future.   In addition, the City of Aurora has recently received an award by the “National Civic League” as a 2008 “All American City” based on exceptional civic accomplishments that are nationally recognized.  Our department was also recently recognized by the National Association of School Resource Officers (N.A.S.R.O.), as “National Model Agency of the Year” for our outstanding School Resource Officer Program that provides services for two large metropolitan area school districts.   And of course our Aurora officers (300 deployed) performed magnificently during the historic event of the Democratic National Convention held in Denver, Colorado during August 2008.  Various federal and state agencies, including the mass media, have recorded acknowledgements and recognition of Aurora Police Officers’ participation during the convention as exemplary in their tactics, training and professionalism.
