The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to illustrate the various work types and assignments. Any omission of specific work statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar or related on a logical assignment in the work area. · Plans, coordinates, trains, and supervises a crew of semi-skilled and skilled personnel performing all phases of survey work.
· Performs property surveys, horizontal and vertical controls surveys, construction staking, and field layouts of projects for the Department of Watershed Management Bureau of Engineering and other City of Atlanta requesting Bureaus.
· Read, interpret, apply and prepare right of way, easement and property descriptions.
· Extensive knowledge of surveying, engineering, and construction methods.
· Performs necessary research including records of surveys, parcel maps, property descriptions, previous survey notes, historical plans and plats.
· Operates all surveying instrumentation and software including levels, transits, electronic distance measuring devices, and total stations; and operates computer aided design, drafting (AutoCAD), and surveying software. Knowledge of Global Positioning Survey (GPS) technology and equipment and of Geographic and Land Information Systems (GIS and LIS).
· Works with project engineers to determine desired survey product, and select proper surveying techniques and equipment to accomplish the task.
· Operates computers and calculators to make complex survey calculations to derive data.
· Possess strong organizational, time management, and supervisory abilities including the ability to make independent field decisions.
· Strong oral and written communication skills.
· Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships at all organizational levels and with the public and exercise tact in dealing with contractors, engineers, and the public.
