The purpose of this job is to monitor wastewater discharges to gather data used to insure compliance with City, State, and Federal Water Pollution Control Regulations, maintain flow/rain monitoring stations used for Inter-Municipal billing operations and stream monitoring. To install and maintain rain and/or stream monitoring stations to ensure compliance with Metro North Georgia Water planning district requirements. Investigates and traces spills, illegal discharges, and accidental discharges that may enter sewers and streams.

Flow Monitoring: Performs frequent confined space entry into sewer manholes. Prepares monitoring station inspection reports. Performs and provides assistance in pollutant tracking in sewer and surface waters. Assists in responding to hazardous material spills or other emergencies to protect life and property. Performs routine monitoring site inspections. Performs repairs and calibrations of flow/rain/stream monitoring sites. Conducts monitoring on trunk sewers. Installs and establishes communication via cellular and land line communications with various remote monitoring stations located throughout the city. Prepares various types of reports, inspection records, correspondence and related documents such as monthly sample schedules, activity reports, and billing summaries. Performs special project assignments as required.

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, or one of the Earth Sciences and two years of experience in flow monitoring, electronics, sewer inspections, process control, maintenance and/or construction, wastewater monitoring, hazardous waste management; OR any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Must possess a valid Georgia Drivers License at the time of appointment.  License must remain valid while in this classification.
