|
The Alexandria Police School Crossing Guard position is a part-time 15 hour a week position.
School Crossing Guards control traffic to ensure the safe and orderly movement of students to and from school. Incumbents must be willing and able to work in all types of inclement weather conditions and be accessible by telephone during school hours to respond to emergency schedule changes. Must be able to work any school post assigned by Crossing Guard Supervisor.
Job Duties include:
Controls traffic at crossing to allow children to cross safely;
Maintains discipline of children, ensuring conformance with traffic and crossing regulations:
Reports accidents, traffic violations and hazardous conditions;
Reports traffic signals out of order;
Gives school children and other persons directions and information;
Instruct children in the safe and correct way to cross streets and in ways to identify a potential traffic hazard;
Assists in traffic control at foot races and parades;
Performs related work as required. |

Minimum & Additional Requirements:
|
| One year experience working with children and completion of grade school; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. |
|
Preferred Qualifications:
|
| Some knowledge of traffic laws concerning right turn on red; ability to read and write; ability to work with children, ability to follow instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with staff and the public; tact and courtesy. |

Notes:
|
This position will have a maximum of 15 hrs per week Monday-Friday and hours will vary by school.
This position requires successful completion of pre-employment criminal background check (Federal and Local)and drug screen. |
