Please note that "Security Guard and Special Police Officer" certifications are not the same as the required Virginia Law Enforcement Officer certification through the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS)and will not be considered for this position.
Under general supervision, the Special Police Officer:
provides security and monitors visitors to the Alexandria Pollice Department facilities; assists the public and employees with various requests for information, including police offense reports and supplements, accident reports, police clearances and criminal history checks, insurance verifications, warrant information, referrals and directions; collects fees for services from citizens and operates a cash register; operates computers and searches for wanted checks, Department of Motor Vehicle files, vehicle identification number verifications, bicycle registrations; enters warrant information and locates previously reported information; performs related work as required.
This position exercises limited police powers within the building and grounds area of the Public Safety Center and has authority to carry and use firearms. |

Minimum & Additional Requirements:
|
Current or lapsed (no more than 24 months from the date of appointment) certification as a Virginia Law Enforcement Officer; or must have completed a recognized police academy within 36 months or have been a certified law enforcement officer within 36 months of appointment; and possession of a high school diploma or GED.
Employees must maintain all mandatory State certification requirements. |
