|
Responsible for assessment, monitoring and providing medical coordination for up to 22 consumers detoxing from various abused substances. The Detox RN assesses the consumer’s medical and mental health at admission and coordinates with the consulting doctor, psychiatrist, emergency room and other health care providers to develop a treatment plan for the safe detoxification of the consumer. The Detox RN administers and monitors medication, provides case management services, health education and crisis intervention to consumers with mental illness and/ or substance abuse disorders. Provides teaching and feedback to counseling staff in monitoring consumers.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
- Screens new referrals for appropriateness.
- Coordinates care for consumers needing treatment for chronic medical and / or psychological problems.
- Assess in-house consumers for current health status by checking vital signs every 2-4 hours as needed.
- Refers consumers with medical and mental health needs to an appropriate resource for care.
- Performs treatment procedures for consumers when feasible.
- Follows-up on consumers receiving medical/psychiatric care.
- Schedules appointments, and verify appointments when necessary.
- Coordinates care with the CSB psychiatrist and team therapist for dually diagnosed consumers.
- Develops and implements a nursing plan for dually diagnosed consumers.
- Develops and implements nursing care for consumers with a variety of special medical and mental health needs.
- Evaluates and modifies treatment as needed for all consumers.
- Teaches the counseling staff all procedures for monitoring vital signs, detox status and mental status.
- Provides feedback and follow-up information for unit staff, CSB psychiatrist and detox medical director as indicated.
- Assists the Detox Center Supervisor as needed in determining effectiveness of overall program functions and modification of programs as needed to meet the highest quality program standards possible.
- Encompassing medical and mental health standards of care observes and evaluates clinic consumers and determine consumers’ condition.
- Discusses with the supervisor any presenting problems that might require a reduction of consumers’ medications.
- Maintains timely and precise records of all medication dispensed.
- Records relevant observations in nurses’ log.
- Performs a daily, weekly and monthly inventory of stock/meds and shall maintain continued counts.
- Protects the confidentiality of consumers at all times.
- Attends medical staff meetings.
- Participates in clinical shift change meetings.
- Exercises all prescribed security measures.
- Meets with staff at various facilities for a review of selected consumers and re-evaluate, as needed, their treatment needs.
- Meets with case managers to review consumer cases for medical/psychological implications when requesting treatment and/or aftercare.
- Extends follow-up assistance to consumers having difficulty obtaining needed health care.
- Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum & Additional Requirements:
|
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Eligibility for, or current licensure with the State Board of Nursing of the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse. |

Preferred Qualifications:

| Bilingual (English-Spanish, French, African or Middle Eastern) language skills. |

This position is grant funded. Requires successful completion of a FBI criminal records check, child abuse registry, Medicaid/Medicare list of excluded indivuals/entities screening, and pre-employment drug screen test.
There are two vacancies: one full-time and one part-time (32 hours per week). |
