The purpose of this classification is to perform manual/mechanical work functions associated with service and maintenance of automotive and mechanical equipment.

 Duties:
Performs routine and preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment (such as pumping fuel into vehicles, checking/replacing fluid levels, draining/replacing oil, changing/replacing filters, lubricating mechanical parts, replacing belts/hoses, checking batteries, greasing equipment, inspecting brakes, etc.).

Performs repair/replacement of tires on light and heavy equipment, motor vehicles, and other machinery, to include rotating tires, balancing tires, and checking air pressure level of tires.

Operates a variety of machinery, equipment, and tools associated with repairing, maintaining and testing vehicles and equipment (which may include a service truck, bus, dump truck, tractor, forklift, bulldozer, backhoe, end loader, fuel truck, generator, tire changer, computerized tire balancer, battery/charging system analyzer, transfer pump, air wrench, air compressor, pressure washer, hydraulic jack, grease gun, tire hammer, gauges, mechanic tools, diagnostic instruments, etc.).

Tests machinery, equipment and parts for proper operations; reports problem situations.

Performs general maintenance tasks necessary to maintain tools and equipment in operable condition; reports faulty equipment for repair.

Assists in maintaining inventory of parts, equipment, tools or supplies; receives incoming parts.

Makes emergency service calls for disabled vehicles at job sites or on the road.

Performs general cleaning/housekeeping tasks associated with maintaining vehicles, equipment, and shop areas.

Prepares and/or completes various forms, correspondence, reports, and other documents.

Receives various forms, reports, work orders, manuals, or other documentation; reviews, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.

Communicates via telephone and/or two-way radio; provides information and assistance; takes and relays messages and/or directs calls to appropriate personnel; returns calls as necessary.

Responds to routine requests for information or assistance from employees, the public, or other individuals.

Provides assistance to other employees or departments as needed.

Performs other related duties as required.

 Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED; supplemented by 5 to 11 months previous experience and/or training; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Commercial Driver's License.
