Nutritionist I is assigned to the health Care Services Agency. This is a flexibly staffed classification and a trainee level position. Under close supervision, incumbents are expected to gain experience and demonstrate proficiency that qualifies them to promote to the higher-level, Nutritionist II.

PROMOTIONAL OPPORTUNITIES: Nutritionist I is a flexibly staffed position and may advance after a one year satisfactory probationary period to Nutritionist II - $2,710.50 – Current Bi-weekly Maximum.

 Minimum Qualifications:
EITHER I

EDUCATION: Possession of a Master's degree in nutrition, public health nutrition, or some other appropriate field from an accredited college or university, plus completion
of an internship approved by the American Dietetic Association.

OR II
EDUCATION: Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, public health nutrition or dietetics from an accredited four year college or university, plus completion of an internship approved by the American Dietetic Association

AND

EXPERIENCE: The equivalent of six months full-time experience in dietetic services or public health nutrition.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES: Valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's license and current registration in good standing with the American Dietetic Association.

NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination.

 Knowledge and Abilities:
The examination may include, but may not be limited to, the testing of concepts related to:

The knowledge of:
• Principles and practices of current academic nutrition knowledge.
• Principles of nutrition education and medical nutrition therapy for clients.
• Elements of food value, costs and budgeting.

And the ability to:
• Plan nutritional programs and coordinate them with other departmental programs.
• Write and speak effectively.

 Examination Components:
1. Review applications and supplemental questionnaires to verify possession of minimum requirements.

2. Candidates possessing the minimum qualifications for the class will be placed on the eligible list based on an evaluation of education, training and experience.
